The organisers of HuntFest in Narooma have allegedly been sent ‘huntsman condoms’ from extreme animal rights group. , People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). 
“PETA distributed the condoms with one aim: to encourage hunters to stop reproducing,” PETA President Ingrid Newkirk said, according to an article in the Bega District News.
“Hardly any kids hunt these days.
‚ÄúIf PETA’s condoms have prevented even one more wretched hunter from being born, we have succeeded in saving the lives of deer, birds, and other living things.‚Äù¬†
HuntFest organiser and South Coast Hunters Club president Dan Field said he had not heard of or received any of the PETA condoms, nor had any of his members.
“Not only is it offensive, it is an out-and-out lie,” Mr Field said.¬†
“It’s just another publicity stunt for those opposed to HuntFest.”
He joked that he thought PETA stood for ‘People eating tasty animals”.
Plans for the 2016 HuntFest event at the Narooma Sporting and Leisure Centre on the June long weekend 11-12 were progressing well with all 36 stalls inside the centre sold out.
Most of the 30 stalls outside had also been allocated but while HuntFest this year will not be moving across to NATA Oval, it could very well next year.
Eurobodalla Shire Council recently approved the events licence to operate both at the centre and the oval until 2022.
“Our long-term plan is to be around for at least the next 20 years,” he said.
Attractions this year will again include the popular air rifle and archery ranges, as well as the butchery and skinning display, and for the first time a local catering company will be involved in feeding the participants.
