Aussie exclusive: the 1911 will be available in 9mm for the first time since 1990.

9mm Colt 1911 due in May

Made exclusively for the Australian market, Colt’s new Government 1911 9mm semi-auto pistol will arrive in Australia in May.

“Colt has been making the 1911 in .45-calibre for over 100 years, but has not produced a full-sized 1911 chambered in 9mm since the 1990s, so it’s exciting to have this model available again in Australia,” said Frontier Arms sales director Bernard Papps.

The new version has been made to the Government model specifications, which is a direct descendant of the original Colt M1911. The 5″ (127mm) barrelled pistol has a blued finish, double diamond rosewood grips, a spur hammer, solid aluminium trigger, bevelled magazine well, a standard safety lock and standard grip safety, and weighs around 37oz (1050g).

A long trigger, flat mainspring housing and original-style recoil spring system remain from the original M1911 design, but upgrades include fixed high-profile white dot sights and a lowered ejection port for extra reliability.

Colt’s quality is derived from the forging techniques used in the manufacturing process. Each Colt 1911 has a forged steel receiver, forged steel slide, forged steel barrel and forged steel slide stop. By forging these key components from steel, rather than casting, Colt produces a pistol of the highest quality.

As with all Colt firearms, this model is 100 per cent made in the United States.
