Browning’s Ti: The ultimate mountain rifle

Even with a Meostar 4-12×40 scope and 584mm barrel, the lightweight A-Bolt Mountain Ti weighs barely 3.3kgs, primarily because of its titanium-alloy action. The stock’s a real beauty.

The high-tech Browning A-Bolt Model Ti is bound to attract the dedicated mountain hunter. Although billed as a “lightweight sporter,”  it’s a full man-sized rifle that makes use of high- tech titanium alloy, a modern synthetic stock with a slim fore- end, a trim butt, and slender lines, together with a decent length of barrel. The term “mountain rifle” dates back 60 years or more to the heyday of sheep hunting and may well have been coined by the late, great Jack O’Connor who set a goal of 7- 1/2lb complete for his ideal sheep rifle.

The mountain rifle can best be described as a high-powered sporter that has been pared down to reduce weight and make it easy to carry and fast handling – qualities that makes tackling even the roughest, steepest terrain a whole lot easier. Over the years, many custom  gunmakers and more recently commercial gun manufacturers have tried their best to eliminate a few grams by replacing steel receivers with with titanium ones.
